Battles
The first battle of this war was the Battle of Tippecanoe, in which General William Henry Harrison defeated the Prophet giving America its first victory. In the year 1812, the British and Indians won the Battle of Fort Detroit, forcing General William Hull to surrender. In 1813, America captured Lake Erie under the command of Captain Perry, and later they won the Battle of Thames under the command of Harrison. The next year, Robert Ross, a British General, lead his troops to a victory in the Battle of Bladensburg, which made the capital vulnerable. The British attacked and captured Washington D.C and set the White House and other government buildings to flames. The Battle of Horseshoe Bend was also fought that year against the Creek Indians on the Tallapoosa River, which led to a treaty that forced the Creek Indians to give up millions of acres of land. On January 8, 1815, the Battle of New Orleans was fought. General Andrew Jackson and his troops won, but later found out that James Madison signed a peace treaty two weeks before.
